Our reindeer foundation animals were obtained from leading producers in northern British Columbia in 1996. In 2001, we acquired two Alaskan reindeer breeding males that were born on Umniak Island, Alaska; these were imported into Alberta as weaned fawns in 1999. The reindeer on Umniak Island are a closed and isolated herd of approximately 3000 animals originally from northern Europe.
