Winter Activities

X-Country Skiing
There are numerous trails around Lake Louise that are marked and mapped. Ski rentals and instruction are available. Start your cross country ski right from the lodge.

Downhill Skiing
The Canadian Rocky Mountains are home to some of the best skiing in North America, consistently ranked alongside Whistler/Blackcomb and Vail/Aspen. The nearby ski resorts are:

Dog Sled Rides
Tour companies offer authentic dog sled rides nearby.  The experience is exhilarating and the dogs are adorable.  They love to run.

Sleigh rides around Lake Louise
A charming and very popular pursuit, especially during the holiday season.  Of course, if all this is a little much, we recommend a seat in the lounge, a single malt scotch, and a good book.

Summer Activities

As Deer Lodge is located in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, activities are almost limitless. Our knowledgeable staff will help you find activities to suit your varied interests, ensuring that your Rocky Mountain experience will live up to your grandest expectations.

Hiking, Rock Climbing and Day Tours
Explore the dozens of hiking trails around Lake Louise and the Victoria Glacier. Take a trip to the Lake Agnes Tea House, perched 45 minutes above Lake Louise for tea and a hearty sandwich (if you want water you must fetch it yourself from the stream); see the beautiful nearby Moraine Lake, or just explore by yourself. We can arrange guides or if you wish to go it alone, provide maps and direction. The surrounding mountains and wilderness offer something for every level of hiking/mountaineering experience and fitness.

Mountain Biking
There are countless mountain bike trails and numerous road riding options in Banff and Lake Louise. Biking is an excellent way to explore this very special place. Trails range from easy to difficult and the biking season typically extends from May to October.

Canoeing
This is an excellent way to fully experience the beauty and tranquility of Lake Louise, with the magnificent Victoria Glacier in the distance.

White-Water Rafting
On the Kicking Horse River. Exhilarating, and wet!

Horseback Riding
There are many wranglers (horseback tour operators who operate specific territories within the Parks) who offer horseback tours to our guests. Take a trip back in time.
